Thank you Drexel, as this was done at its intrasquad meet and covered by SwimSwam
Drexel University added a unique event to its lineup for their intrasquad meet, the eliminator 1000. Six swimmers started the race and the last one at each point of the 200, 400, 600, and 800 were eliminated, leaving two swimmers at the final touch of the 1000. That swimmer earned the win.
At the end of each 200, the bell was rung over the lane where the swimmer was in last place, meaning they were done swimming the event.
Cannonball swimmer needed at the far end of the pool if the swimmer does not stop.
More drama.
Of course, don’t drop on or near the swimmer, but plop into that swimmer’s lane when the swimmer hits half-way and is still plugging.
Alternatives
In an I-League scrimmage it could be set up in an 8 lane pool as follows:
Drop a lane / team at the 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 900 on the way to the fastest 2 finishing at the 1,000.
Varsity swimmers in lanes 1, 3, 5, 7. Each does the 1,000 free in Elimination Fashion.
I-League swimmers in lanes 2, 4, 6, 8.
- Lane 2 could have 3 swimmers, each does a 50 in relay fashion.
- Lane 4 could have 2 swimmers, each does a 50 in relay fashion. (These are faster swimmers than in lane 2.)
- Lane 6 could have 3 swimmers, each does a 75 in relay fashion. (These are faster swimmers than in lane 4.)
- Lane 8 could have 3 swimmers, each does a 25 in relay fashion. (These are the slowest swimmers.
A false start is an automatic DQ and elimination.
